Farm Animal Overalls

I try to get to Fabric Depot as often as I can when I’m in the Portland area. They have an insane selection and of course, no tax. I got this fabric when I was there a few months with no specific project in mind. But then last week I thought, what better place to put farm animals then on baby overalls made from a vintage pattern?

Skill level: This sewing project would be good for beginning to intermediate sewers.
Time commitment estimate: A couple of hours, depending on skill level.

If you want to make these baby overalls for yourself, check out this link for supplies I use for just about every project. I got the pattern I used (Simplicity 9820) at one of the many Goodwills I’ve stopped in over the years to look for vintage patterns. It was very easy to follow, and actually called for a self-fabric facing. (Unlike the dress I made in last week that called for a bias tape finish, so I ended up making my own facing for it.)

I really like that the pattern instructions gave the option of sewing the inseam closed or using snaps. I think any parent would appreciate having a snap option for one year old, so I used snap tape to finish the inseam. I was going to do individual snaps, but that would have taken way too long.

I made this one in a size 1 (which should fit most 1-year-olds). Check out my Etsy listing here.
