I made this shirtdress from a vintage pattern a couple of weeks ago and am loving it. It looks a bit like a maternity dress if I wear it unbelted, but it’s so comfortable I sort of don’t even care.
I’ve had this pattern (McCall’s 8944) laying around for a few years (I think I actually got it from my husband’s aunt who used it in the 80’s!), and finally put it to use when I found this polka dot fabric at Jo-Ann’s.
The placket ended up being a fun challenge. I hadn’t sewn one like this in years. Here’s the front and back of one before the cuff was sewn on. (Sorry about the bad lighting – I was taking these photos after work one night when it was already dark out.)
Here’s what it looks like completed.
This photo below is pretty dark too, but the dress actually looks much closer to this dark navy color in real life than the outdoor photos are showing.
And of course, my adorable little helpers.
ModCloth is my absolute favorite place to shop for vintage-like clothing items that look expensive but are completely affordable. Below are some options for shirtdresses similar to the one that I made above!
