A baby skirt jumper

How cute is this little thing? The McCalls pattern 7882 was a vintage Goodwill score last year and I decided to finally put it to use.

The downside to getting old patterns secondhand is that there’s no guarantee that all the pattern pieces will be there. In this case, the front waistband piece was missing. I figured it out, but definitely made it up as I went. Even thought it looks fine, I would probably try it a different way next time to make it easier to sew.

Another update I’ll make the next time I use this pattern is to cut the front piece on the fold instead of in two separate pieces like the pattern calls for, especially if I choose a print that’s so big and obvious that there’s a seam down the middle.

The thing I would definitely do again is to use Velcro for the strap closure instead of a button and button hole. I just sewed a button on top so it looks real, but this way will be much easier to get a toddler in and out of.

This fabric is one of my all-time favorites. See how else I used it for a kids apron here and a toddler dress here.
