This was year 5 of making costumes for my best friend’s daughters. The first couple of years we got to decide what they were going to be, but it’s been fun for these last three years to see what they’re passionate about dressing up as for Halloween. Check out Year 1 Garden Gnomes here, Year 2 Superheros here, Year 3 Anna and Elsa here , Year 4 Snoopy & Woodstock here, and the roundup post here.
It was the first time they were something that had nothing to do with the each other, so it was fun to do the fabric and trim shopping to see what I could come up with.
I used sewing pattern Butterick B4319 for the Devil Costume (the horns that matched the cape almost perfectly were a Goodwill score).
I used sewing pattern Simplicity 2571 for the witch costume. I think it’s actually a wizard in the photo, but I just made my own adjustments to make it witch-like. I also added a light weight wire to the seam of the hat brim to give it a bit more structure.
They were so excited. SO excited to get the costumes and be able to get dressed up. It’s so fun to see the creativity come out when they can take on the persona of something or someone else.
I can’t wait to see what they’ll choose next year!
